The LA Original store at the Tom Bradley International Terminal joins another retail location in Southwest Airlines Terminal 1.
LA Original, a program spotlighting and supporting L.A.’s creative economy and local manufacturers, announces a second retail store at LAX in the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT). A selection of LA Original products, along with merchandise designed specifically for the locations, is available for purchase in TBIT and Southwest Airlines Terminal 1.
An initiative of the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles (MFLA) in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, LA Original celebrates Los Angeles as the creative capital of the world and supports local entrepreneur programs. The initiative provides a platform to highlight and promote locally designed, assembled, or manufactured goods through a line of L.A.-branded products, and gives back to creative entrepreneur programs across the City.
The LA Original collection represented at these two LAX locations include accessories, housewares, and apparel by L.A.-based designers and makers including LA Original Core Collection items such as tees, hats, and baby onesies; a market bag by Apolis with artwork by Geoff McFetridge; jewelry designs by Maya Brenner; postcards from Cha Cha Covers; apparel designs produced by Everybody.World; and sauces from Salsaology.
The LAX retail locations are operated by Marshall Retail Group, America’s largest, independent specialty retailer in the airport marketplace.
“We are excited to offer visitors and Los Angeles locals alike, products that are born from the collaborative spirit and creative culture of the City of Angels at LA Original – now with two locations at LAX in Terminal 1 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal.” said Michael C. Wilkins, Chief Executive Officer of Marshall Retail Group. “Through our collaboration with LA Original, we are also supporting the Downtown Women’s Center through the sale of our products which is a benefit to that community,”
LA Original program proceeds support MADE by DWC, a social enterprise operated by the Downtown Women’s Center to provide job training and employment in product and retail environments for women transitioning out of homelessness.
“For women who are transitioning out of homelessness, there are a multitude of barriers to employment, ranging from bouts of unemployment to experiencing stigma against homelessness,” said Chief Executive Officer of Downtown Women’s Center, Lisa Watson. “Our MADE by DWC job training program offers women the opportunity to regain confidence, exercise their creativity, and gain valuable job skills on their path to personal stability. By purchasing the handMADE products women transitioning out of homelessness make, including our three LA Original candles, you directly contribute to ending women’s homelessness in LA.”
